The box was forgotten this week, but the item was remembered, so we're back to a brown paper bag because I had one in the office. The item this week was a pink wallet.People use wallets to carry things.
Look at yours, what's in it? I've got my drivers license, visa, several discount cards, my selective service card, my minister in good standing card, a wallet size of my high school diploma, receipts, one dollar, checks I need to deposit, so pocket lint. It's amazing that I don't have the one thing I talked about people having in their wallets. I don't have a picture of Janette in it! I don't have any pictures in my wallet.
But you know what, if God carried a wallet, your picture would be in it. The Bible tells us that God is our father. Romans 8.15 says, "For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, 'Abba! Father!'” That word "Abba" is translated as "Daddy" it's the affectionate cry of a child.
God is our daddy. Everyone has a father, without one you wouldn't be alive. It's easy to be a father, it doesn't take any commitment at all. But to be a daddy, that takes time, it requires effort and energy. God is our daddy. And as our daddy, His wallet is full of the pictures of His children.
He loves to show them off. He'll say, "This is my son, Steve, he's an incredible athlete. You should see him throw a football. Oh, and this is my daughter Michelle, she has the most amazing voice. This is Mike, I'll have to show you his artwork some time, it'll blow you away. This is Sarah, she makes the best cookies in the world." And it goes on and on, and then He gets to you, "This is ________, let me tell you about ______ (s)he does _______ so well. I love ________ so much." Fill in the blanks.
Your picture is in God's wallet, and He shows it off every time He gets the opportunity. God loves you.
Peace be with you
