This week we had a slight repeat item, a full flower this time, and a leaf. I'll be honest, I cheated a little this week. The bag was slightly damp, and smelled strange. The girl handed it to me before church, and in the privacy of my office I looked just to see what it was, just to be safe.
It kind of through me because what was I going to say about a flower, I had already used the lilies of the field passage. I began to think, and the only thing that God gave me was creation.
Genesis 1.11-13, "Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning, a third day."
God makes each plant. He makes each flower with it's own scent and color. Each one is unique to it's kind. I talked about leaves. Did you know that leaves aren't really green? That the true color of a leaf is not green? Leaves are green because of the chlorophyll in them, but they aren't really green. The true color of the leaves are the colors that we see in the fall. Leaves are really red and yellow, orange and brown, and all the combinations there of. God created incredible beauty.
But these plants are only day three of His creation, it only gets better. We are working through the Gospel of John on Sunday morning, at the end of chapter 1 Jesus asks Nataniel, "Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” (49a) Jesus says to Nathaniel, "You haven't seen anything yet, it just gets better." God's creation just continues to get better, on the sixth day He creates man in His own image.
We can see the beauty that God has made in creation, and in that we see how much we mean to Him. If he invests to much time in a flower that lives for a few day, or leaves that only show their true colors before they fall to the ground, how much must He love the creation that is in His own image? God loves you, just look at the beauty of His creation.
Peace be with you
