House Key

All of us have a key to our home. It gives us access to a private area where we live and rest. In it we have memories, secret, private things that we treasure and protect. Sometimes there are things we keep hidden, locked behind closed doors. Our hearts are the same way.

Revelation 3.20 says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me." Jesus doesn't have a key to our hearts. He stands at the door and knocks, waiting for us to invite Him in. Jesus will never break down the door to enter. He never forces His way in. He comes by invitation, and only leaves by request when He is no longer wanted. It breaks His heart to leave, but He isn't a rude guest, and when we don't want His presence any longer, He leaves.

I don't think Jesus ever gets a house key to our hearts. I don't think He ever needs one. He won't force His way in, and He never shows up at the dinner table uninvited. And once He's there the plan is for Him to stay forever. It's the ultimate Thanksgiving feast.

You have the house key to your heart. Jesus is there knocking. Open the door for Him to enter, and then lock the door behind Him so that nothing can interrupt your fellowship with Him.

Peace be with you
