I'm amazed at how small they can make things these days. Yesterday I was handed a video camera that fit in the palm of my hand. I remember twenty years ago being in Nevada/California on a family vacation to visit my grandpa. My mom borrowed my aunts video camera for the trip. You had to hold in on your shoulder to tape something, and it recorded it onto a video tape. This one yesterday had an SD card. It's amazing how far technology has come in the last two decades.
How does a video camera point us to God? God sees our whole lives. C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity talks about how God can hear and answer all the prayers of everyone in the world if they all pray to Him at once. He says that to God it is always the present. Writing back in the 1940's he says that to God it still the 1920's and already the 1960's. God exists outside of time. He sees our whole lives.
A video camera is used to record memories. My parents still to this day record birthdays and Christmas. When I wrestled my dad would record all of my matches. We've recorded baptisms and other church events. God, since He exists outside of time and sees every moment as the present, in a way has all of our lives recorded.
But when you record something occasionally there is footage you don't want, parts of a vacation you don't want to remember, embarrassing stuff that happened at some event (often that's the funny stuff that you are so glad you got on tape). But sometimes there is just stuff you don't want. For this we have video editing. In this process we can remove footage that we don't want. We can delete it and in a way forget that it happened.
God does this as well. We have all sinned in life. Romans 3.23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," and sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59.2, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." And the result of sin is death, Romans, 6.23a, "For the wages of sin is death,"
There is sin in our lives, and it leads to death. But God doesn't want us to perish, so He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us on the cross so that we might be saved. Romans 6.23b, "but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Forgiveness is ours through Jesus, all we have to do is ask for it.
1 John 1.9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Romans 10.9, " that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;"
And the best part is that when we confess our sins, not only does God forgive us, but He forgets our sin, He erases it from His memory.
Hebrews 8.12 says, "FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE."
Hebrews 10.17, "AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE."
If you have confessed your sins to God, you are forgiven. The blood of Jesus has washed you and made you clean. God has forgotten your sin, don't let if have power over you any more. (I've written a little about this in a post called Scars, on my other blog Give me Words..., there is a link at the bottom of this page). You have been forgiven, be free.
Peace be with you
