Purse

I'm not too familiar with purses, my wife carries one, and has a few she rotates between based on the season, but that's about the limit of my knowledge. I do however carry a man bag, which when around my sister I refer to as my man purse because it drives her nuts. The point of my man bag is to carry the things I need. I have in it my favorite Bible, my thought journal, a pocket dictionary, the book I'm currently reading, a pocket hymnal, a pack of index cards, a few pens, my laptop and charger, a phone charger, stress ball, a planner, and a golf ball. Most of the time I have a flashlight in there as well, but the batteries are dead at the moment. It's the stuff I need through out the day.

A woman's purse serves a similar function, it carries her keys, wallet, makeup, and whatever else women need for the day. It contains everything in an easily accessible place. It's close at hand so when an item is needed it can be accessed immediately. How does a purse point back to God.

If we think about the Bible we see countless verses that are applicable to everyday life. There are verses for encouragement, peace of mind, correction, and direction. There are verses for comfort, for worship, and for combat against the devil. The Bible is full of everything we need to get us through the day. But how often do we have time, in the moment, to search the pages of scripture, depending on your Bible there could be thousands, for that one verse we need? That is why we need to store the verses of Scripture in our own personal purse.

Psalm 119.11, "Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You."

We must memorize Scripture, and store it in our hearts and minds. When it is needed, we are able to grab it and use it because it is close at hand. When the Bible is close at hand, when the ancient words of comfort and wisdom are at our disposal, the problems and situations we face are really small and insignificant. God has given us the incredible gift of His written word. Let's not take it for granted, but fill our hearts and minds with it. Let's store it in our "purse".

Peace be with you
