I was given a Valentine this past Sunday, not sure why the little girl had it in March. The point of a Valentine is to let someone know you care on February 14. At school we had to give them out to everyone, even if you didn't like them. Now that I'm older I can get away with just one, and actually my wife and I didn't even do Valentine's cards this year.
Valentine’s Day isn't the only day we love people, but it's a day set aside specifically for that purpose. Kind of lie Mother's Day and Father's Day aren't the only day we have parents, but it’s a day set aside specifically to say thanks for all they do. Thanksgiving isn't the only day we should be thankful, Memorial Day isn't the only day we should remember our troops, and Fourth of July isn't the only day we should celebrate our freedom as Americans. Christmas, and Good Friday/Easter, aren't the only days we should celebrate all the Christ has done for us.
What if we lived every day like we do on holidays? What if we celebrated, people we care about, parents, the blessings of life, the freedom we have because of the sacrifices of others, and above all God, everyday? Why do we need a holiday to remind us to say thanks or celebrate someone that has done something for us?
God has given each of us a Valentine, and in just over a month we'll officially celebrate it. God gave us a Savior who died on a cross for the Sin of the world Good Friday, and the Lord Jesus who rose from the Dead on Easter. As it says in Romans 5.8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
To God alone be the glory!
Peace be with you
