Notebook

I thought we had done this one before, but the kids said no. I haven't checked through the posts to see, but I'm positive that we did this one before. I know I've said what I said before.

The point of a notebook, primarily, is to take notes in.  I have dozens (I doubt hundreds, but maybe) of these things that I've filled out over my academic career.  I was the student who always took too many notes.  That bump you get on you middle finger from holding a writing utensil, yeah I still have it, a permanent battle scar earned as I fought for the Diploma and BA.

I took notes on everything because I didn't want to be unprepared for a test.  Anything that could possibly be asked, no matter how trivial or unrelated to the course material, I wanted to be ready for.  I have notebooks from high school that I can't make sense of because of how much is written on the pages.

I think it's obvious how this points back to God.  Psalm 119.11 says, "Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You."  I want to live my life for the glory of God.  I want to worship Him with all I do.  I want to live my life in a way that pleases Him.  I don't want to sin against God.  That is the life that God also wants for me, and so He has given me a book that shows me how to.

The Bible contains everything I need to know to become like Christ and live for the glory of God.  But I have to read it, study it, and apply it for it to mean anything.  If I never took notes in school, I would have been caught unprepared.  If I didn't apply the things I learned in school to what I'm doing, then it was a waste of time.

Life was given to us to glorify God, but we can't do that if we are living in sin.  If we don't know how to live for God, we can't glorify Him.  And so God has given us a book to learn from and apply to life.  But there is studying we must do.  We have to treasure His word in our heart.  Not just learn it, but apply it as well, so that we might not sin against Him.

To God alone be the glory!

Peace be with you
