Sucker

This week I saw something really cool that had no purpose at all except to be really cool. They now make suckers where the stick is a zipper, it's cool but serves absolutely no purpose.

I was handed two suckers this week, and I began to think about how a sucker relates to God. Suckers are made of sugar and some colored dye. There is no nutritional value in a sucker at all. If we ate nothing but suckers we would have no teeth, be malnourished, and have diabetes. It would be great at first, suckers taste really good, and if you don't like the one you have, just find a different flavor. But in the long run it would destroy your life.

Sin is the same way. At first it's a blast, but the thrill doesn't last. Instead of leaving you satisfied you need more, and more never satisfies, it just leaves you longing for more in a vain attempt to find satisfaction. The cycle goes on and on until we die. That's the result.

"For the wages of sin is death," Romans 3.23a. Sin leads to death, that's all. If sin is the life we choose here on earth, then this is as good as it gets so enjoy it. But sin isn't the only option, death is not the only result. "but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 3.23b.

God has made a way for us to be free from sin. He offers us grace freely. He holds His hands out to us, extending grace, all we have to do is reach out and accept it. When we accept grace death is not the end. When this physical life is over, it leads to more life, real life.

In Christ there is satisfaction, in Christ their is fulfillment. There will be longing, but it's longing for more of Jesus and He is overjoyed to satisfy that longing. Jesus is the only way to satisfaction.

Peace be with you
