A badge is a sign of authority. When I think of a badge my mind immediately goes to a police officer. His badge gives him the authority to protect people. He can pull over people who are driving recklessly. He can arrest people who are endangering themselves or others. Their authority is there to keep people safe.
Authority comes from God. Romans 13.1-5, "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience."
God has given us authority for our benefit and protection. As we grow the authorities in our lives change, from parents to governments, but at all times we are to submit to authority, because God is the one who has given them authority, and the authority is for our benefit and protection. As long as we obey the laws, which are there for our benefit, we have nothing to fear from authority. It is those who break the laws that must be afraid because authorities are there to punish those who endanger others.
Submit to authority and do good, and you will honor God.
Peace be with you
