Silly Bandz

When I asked for the bag yesterday morning I was shot at with silly bandz. I was given a seahorse, a dolphin, and two of Satan, I means cats. Silly bandz is one of those things I wish I'd have thought of, and at the same time can't believe that someone has made millions off of a rubber band. Many kids have hundreds of these things, one girl yesterday said she had 375, and she couldn't wear them all at once because they cut off the circulation in her arms.

They are a fad, and I was reading that like any fad there are copy cats and imitations, just with different names. For one of the first times I've found a church knock off that actually makes sense. A lot of the "secular" things the church tries to make "spiritual" normally are really dumb. The big thing that comes to mind is there was a Sunday School Musical movie that came out. But when it comes to silly bandz I think they did something right.

I got a catalogue at the church and in it there were Salvation Bands. They were in different shapes and colors based on what they represent, and they tell the story of creation, the fall, Christ, the cross, salvation and heaven. The idea is that in order to trade them you tell what they mean. It's taken a cultural fad, and turned them into a tool for the Kingdom. I can honestly say good job church.

Kids today trade silly bandz with each other. They give one away and get one back. God's love is that way. We give it away and it comes back to us. I remember a song from my childhood, "God's love is like a boomerang, give it away it comes back again." Share the love of Jesus, give it away and watch it come back to you.

(Just so all readers are aware, I have no silly bandz and won't ever).

Peace be with you
